although it is now spring and warm, we still miss the heat and sunshine (when there is no downpour for a change) - and time ...
Other than that we doing great. Dear Gabi, you wanted to know how Bernd's cholesterol-values are developing: Well, they have dropped to 197, as low as never before - and the ratio of good and bad cholesterol has dramatically improved. All in all, the cure was brilliant. We feel more energetic and I have much less pain than before. After detoxifiying our bodies and shedding a few kilos, we continued at home - clearing the house and getting rid of everything unnecessary. Before, we never had the energy for this. So you see, things are definitely improving. Yesterday we attended a workshop "The Five Tibetans" and we can use this knowledge together with yoga and meditation to relax and re-energise.
Our trip through the island was brilliant and we were lucky with the weather. In between, our driver Neemal repeatedly called his family in Hikkaduwa and always reported of rain and thundershowers in your region, while we had little to no rain. In Tissa during the safari in Bundala National park, we had wonderful weather. After that we headed to Nureliya up in the clouds, where rain is usually predominant. But it didn't come until we ended our programme in the afternoon. From there we headed to Haggala Park and into the hill-country. Thereafter down to Kandy with a few drops of rain. After returning from our tour to Dambulla there was heavy rain, but again wonderful weather while visiting Peradenia Park. Many thanks to Ananda for his tip to visit the experimental gardens of the university with its abundance of vegetables. This was very interesting for me. And - dear Robert - the botanical garden in Kandy has this huge orchid, a "vandal". Wasn't that the one you wanted? Peradenia has a little shop; why don't you send Ananda there. Just as a reminder - this is what the pesticide "Promanal", which I had recommended to you, looks like. I'm currently using it quite frequently in our winter-garden to fight the wool-lice.

after my sudden departure I arrived safely in cold Germany (at least my body did). My thoughts are not quite so fast, I am always thinking about you, looking at the time and wondering what you are doing right now. I'm sure this will continue for quite some time and I realise just how much the new experiences and the cure have made a lasting impression on me. It is almost like a shock to return to Germany after three weeks that seemed more like three months to me.
It is beyond words how much I enjoyed my stay with you. The lovely people who never stopped caring for us, the treatments, the garden, the food ... I don't think I have ever felt so welcome and pampered. It will be a difficult and slow process to get used to a "life after Lawrence Hill".
For that, I want to again thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is beyond words for me to express what I experienced and how it affected my inner life. I will feed on this hopefully long enough until I am able to return. Please give my very best regards to all, especially Petra and Christina, but also the physicians and all who know me.

Before coming to you, I had tried almost every alternative healing method without a noticeable improvement. I visited you together with my friend Ute in 2002 (we had stopped by spontaneously during an island-trip) and was enthused by your resort, its lavish but also positively minimalist atmosphere, the good food, but most of all by your physicians and therapists (e.g. Dilums golden hands). At that time, yoga and meditation were running on the side. During a trip through South India I learned to appreciate the benedictory effects of intensive yoga and I am certain that this is a perfect addition to your cure-programme and that it will further enhance the quality and sustainability of your cures. Even if it takes great effort in the beginning, the positive effects do come to the light eventually.

This was simply like hitting the jackpot!
With a minimal number of rooms (we were an average of ten guests) and three doctors, approx. 20 therapists and all in all nearly 50 staff members, care for guests could hardly be any more personal. The management of Christine Keusch takes care of everything an average German/European in Sri Lanka could ever worry about: the resort was in impeccable condition, the rooms extremely clean, and the staff fulfilled every wish before it was even spoken out loud. With the extremely diversified and - compared to the number of guests - very plentiful cuisine, one never felt like being in a medical cure.
The individual treatments were excellent and - thanks to the abundance of staff - requested changes were immediately implemented. There was certainly no shortage of treatments. This is what we received for our money:
1. Several of our small aches and pains have disappeared - and continue to do so until now.
2. We returned home very well recovered and with a positive attitude
3. We have wonderful memories of Sri Lanka
What more could one ask for?

I was one of the many who had hesitated coming to an Ayurveda cure after Tsunami (I have been visiting southeast Asia for 30 years and often before came to Sri Lanka, so it is a familiar destination for me), but after returning back at home I am very pleased with my decision not to cancel my flight and to take a cure with you. Being on the grounds, I was able to see that - despite the horrible pictures presented by the media, there is hope and confidence among the people in the affected coastal region. I experienced many foreign aid organisations, but also many people who spontaneously came to help. At Lawrence Hill I enjoyed a wonderful, rejuvinating and harmoneous Ayurvedic cure. I want to thank the owner, Christine Keusch and her team for extending such warm heartiness to me. It was not my first Ayurvedic cure, so I think I am able to judge that I was cared for in the best possible manner and returned back home like new thanks to the benign medical care, the delicious food and the harmoneous surroundings of the tropical garden (thank you Robert, you really have a green thumb). Thank you Christine for taking me along during your almost daily runs to your projects. You really helped in an exemplary manner. You helped not only in the very beginning by providing food and water, but also with your direct help for the reconstruction of businesses, which in turn recreated the much needed jobs for many familites. You are a very strong and determined person who can really move things and who uses this talent in a well-directed manner. I remember the gratitude in the faces of business-people and traders who were happy to see the first tourists back in their country, enabling them to do business, sell some clothes, bring some money back home in the evening. I was happy to buy a few items, probably did so more than during any other holiday before. But it simply seemed to make sense at the time. How many times did I walk alone as a single woman along Galle road, how many "hello's" greeted me from people working along the roadside, who were happy to see me. The many street- and beach-boys who are normally around in Sri Lanka were nowhere to be found. It seemed like the people became friendlier yet towards foreigners.
The Tsunami happened and its effects will be visible for a long time, but let's not punish those affected by it even more by not going to Sri Lanka for holiday. Make use of the offers of the island, for example Lawrence Hill Paradise Hotel, and spend a restful Ayurvedic curing holiday, thus helping the people by your presence.

Just recently we spent the most wonderful three weeks at Lawrence Hill Paradise Hotel. Despite the Tsunami catastrophy we were asked not to cancel our holiday. We were promised royal treatment, our every wish would be fulfilled. And it all turned out to be true. Just like last time we were greeted by the most friendly staff and we thoroughly relaxed and regenerated in the paradise-like garden with lovely weather and sunshine.
Hikkaduwa is being rebuilt in every corner. Many small shops have re-opened and shop-owners are all too happy to sell their ware. The wonderful beach invited us to long walks during fabulous sunsets.
We do hope for Christine and her staff that guests will return very soon!

I was among the first guests of Lawrence Hill Resort after Tsunami and want to use this guest-book to encourage those who are still undecided whether or not to come to Sri Lanka and Hikkaduwa in particular for a cure. Do throw overboard your concern and hesitation!
It really surprised me to see how quickly life had come back to almost normal in Sri Lanka, disregarding the tents along the roadside and the apparent damages everywhere. It is most important that people can look forward into a future again after this massive shock. It must be mentioned just how much humanitarian help Christine, the owner of the Ayurveda resort, provided to the people during the first days. She is a bundle of energy, tirelessly providing the most needed items such as food and water. I feel honored to have met her, especially during this difficult time. It was extremely interesting to see which projects she supports, i.e. financing reconstruction of houses and factories, toys for children ...
I felt so well taken care of, nothing was lacking and the attention given to each individual guest by the therapiests and doctors was simply unique. Even the nearby beach, which I had remembered from earlier visits to Sri Lanka and Hikkaduwa, had already been cleaned. I had never seen it so clean before.
With this in mind I wish the entire team of Lawrence Hill all the best for the future. To those who will arrive soon I would like to recommend: come for a cure; relax, enjoy, and let go of your daily worries.

It is hard to believe what can be done within six weeks. I am so amazed about the changes in most places in comparison to the earlier situation. My commendations to you Christine, you did everything possible to provide quick help and relief. Reading your reports brought tears to my eyes. Kudos to you!
The whole situation is truly one between total despair and joy and happiness. Although I am still shocked when watching Tsunami-reports on television, I still love the island of Sri Lanka and will not rescind from the decision to visit the country for the duration of five months very soon. So, with my best wishes from New-Brandenburg (it is bitter cold here and the people, although not blessed with riches, still find the time to spend their money in record-breaking consumption - the shopping-malls are always filled), I would like to ask a few questions: How is the current situation in Sri Lanka? Does it frighten you that the only hope among an atmosphere of dire straits and despondency are the tourists? Please please do let me know, these matters are very important to me.

I urge you NOT TO CANCEL your booked holiday in Sri Lanka. I returned from Sri Lanka on January 9, 2005 and I can assure you that the Lawrence Hill Paradise is not affected by the Tsunami whatsoever. The business is running as smooth as always, the road to the airport is clear and without hindrance. Many of the establishments in Hikkaduwa are back in operation (banks, restaurants). It is of utmost importance now that those few peoplel who still have a job at this time will be able to keep it and provide an income for their families. Your visit to Sri Lanka will provide for their future.

Coming back from my holiday I immediately contacted Walter to inquire about your well-being. I am so glad that you and your team are fine, considering the circumstances. Since this horrible catastrophy I have constantly been thinking about you and have started to collect some donations for you. I had visited you around this time last year, and now I am just appalled by the unbelieveable catastrophy which has hit Sri Lanka. Although I can still not manage to really imagine what it must be like, the pictures which continue to come in by television are simply shocking. We just wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you and that we hope to be able to send you strength and confidence through our thoughts. We are stunned to see the pictures of the devastation, knowing how beautiful your country normally is. At the same time we take comfort knowing that you are OK, considering the circumstances.
In our small Tirolean village we also had a catastrophy (a landslide, another form of water). At that time we also thought there is no hope for us. Nevertheless, the sun did shine the next day, often an unbelieveable and intolerable fact during those difficult times.
